Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back
Terrence Cain

I don’t know about you, but me personally, I had a great summer. Saw some good movies, spent time with my family and friends, and caught up with some of my favorite vinyl records. Yeah, I’m anti-trendy. I don’t buy digital downloads, and if I can keep from it, I don’t buy CDs either. I’m just old-fashioned, I guess.
I was also busy this summer creating another blog page where I talk about my passion, music. The blog is called The Music Fan’s Corner and I had a lot of fun with it and got some really good responses; so if you’re interested in reading those articles just click the following link and check it out. http://themusicfanscorner.blogspot.com/
I also created a Facebook page that is connected to my blog. http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Music-Fans-Corner/189717747745525
Music and writing are my two greatest passions and that is why I am in college. I hope, by 2014, to be working as a music journalist. Only time will tell if this dream of mine will come true.
Well I am most definitely glad to be back for another semester at Howard College here in Big Spring! I know what some of you are thinking, and I’ll be honest, I actually do enjoy being educated. And for the record, I used to be like some of you whom I see around campus not digging being in school, mostly the ones who just graduated from high school. I used to hate going to school too. I was always ditching classes whenever I could. I also hated the boring teachers, which it wasn’t their fault that they were boring, and the way the system offers you a so-called “education” that comes off as a bad joke. They teach you to a test and the teachers don’t seem to be allowed to exercise their own thoughts on the subjects they teach their kids. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not picking on the teachers. There are a lot of them whom I know feel the same way and wish they could change things for the better. Maybe one day things will change and get better in the future so that kids like me will enjoy all levels of education because the is the whole point of teaching; to make people smarter and to want to enjoy learning new things. Now that was me ten or fifteen years ago. I have, however, found college to be a heck of a lot different and more entertaining to my brain’s thirst for knowledge. That’s because it seems like the college professors have a bit more freedom to teach how they believe you should be taught. So let’s talk about my classes this week, shall we?
On Monday I had algebra with Prof. Buske and criminology with Prof. Calvio. In my algebra class I was expecting a rehashing of the last two semesters, but Prof. Buske has decided to change things up and to not lecture her students. Instead we’ll simply be working problems out and she will be assisting us however she can. I hope this new way of learning works out in my favor because as I’ve stated last semester I am horrible at math; especially complex forms like algebra. In my first semester I had sociology with Prof. Calvio. So I thought I would take another class with Prof. Calvio this semester in his criminology class. First I would like to say that Prof. Calvio has to be one of the coolest and most knowledgeable professors at Howard College in Big Spring. He’s laid back and really passionate about his courses in sociology and I am sure he will be in his criminology class since this course is basically a sequel to his sociology class.  Prof. Calvio even had a hand in editing the criminology book for his class so as you can see he is very passionate about what he teaches. In his class, for me however, it was a slight bit embarrassing when he told everyone in class that I was a very good writer. I’m just not used to someone praising me for what I do so it was a bit of a blushing cheeks moment for me in his class with all the other students staring at me.
Now on Tuesday’s class I had horticulture with Prof. Berry and government with Prof. Hamby. Prof. Berry seemed cool but I didn’t really have much of a conversation with him other than the fact when he walked into the classroom he had a bee on his back. I told him about it and he was able to deflect the little bugger with a long handled brush. I know it seems like nothing big, but the truth is that there are people out there who are allergic to bees and I wasn’t just going to let him walk around and possibly get stung. What can I say? I look out for others regardless if I know them or not.
I think, however, my favorite class has got to be with Prof. Hamby. Prof. Hamby and I most definitely think alike, and no disrespect to the other history/government professor here in Big Spring, but he was just a little too extreme for my tastes. Today we discussed what governments around the world were truly created for and why compromise and working together is the best way for a government to function instead holding on to your own personal ideas and agendas that you have set out for only yourself. On Thursday local politician, Rep. Randy Neugebauer, will be in our class talking with us. We, the students, will be asking him questions and I will most definitely be participating; so this is where I am going to end my first blog for this fall semester, my third for those who don’t know, because I will be back on Friday with another blog about how Thursday’s government class went. This is Howard College’s blogging machine, over and out!
